I went to the opera today: Pelléas et Mélisande of Debussy.
Musicalwise it was different than other operas, as the music was not directly linked to the vocals and was intended to express the mood of the scene (at least that is the theory).
The production was good, sometimes very fantastic (which I liked) but unfortunately sometimes it did not fit. The singers were quite good, the orchestra perfect as always. It was the first time in my life I guess, that I have experienced a female conductor. She was very good but somehow this profession seems to be even more male dominated than the IT sector.
I have to mention Anthony Muresan a boy solist who sang the role of Yniold. Very often these roles are cast with female sopranos but I find that not really appropriate. Anthony is a very good singer.
