I have just been to a concert in the Kulturpalast Dresden. I really love this concert hall. The Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra played together with the Kreuzchor and some excellent solists one of Haydn‘s messes and three pieces of Brahms.
It is interesting to hear a mess composed by Haydn. It sounds very different, very Vienna Classic, compared to other composers. The orchestra was relatively small. Especially compared to Brahms. The Brahms pieces were musical versions of poems by Goethe, Schiller and Hölderlin. Personally I preferred Brahms over Haydn.
Overall the concert was excellent. Interestingly a former member of the choir was in the audience and he confirmed to me that the performance of the choir was outstanding.
Looking forward to the next concert of the choir on Wednesday!
