On Tuesday I have been to a concert in Stuttgart at the Liederhalle. The Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra played together with a young pianist Maximilian Schairer.
First they played an Ouverture of Schubert, which was nice. Then they played the 3rd piano concert of Hummel. Hummel is in between classic and romantic. He was a scholar of Mozart but especially with the 3rd piano concert he created something new. A lot of people say you can hear Chopin in that piece (Chopin came later). It was a wonderful concert. Especially the second movement was amazing where the piano is in dialogue with the horns and the violins and violas are silent. I think it was the first big concert of Maximilian Schairer and he gave an excellent performance. I have heard him some weeks ago in a concert of Frank Dupree where he played the piano when Frank was only conducting.
After the interval we heard the forth symphony of Beethoven. Rarely played nowadays but common at the time of Beethoven. It is a beautiful piece worth listening!
