No ride of the Valkuries

Yesterday evening the Ring ended with „Brünhilde“. It consisted of the third act of Walküre and a lot of Götterdämmerung. Contentwise maybe the weakest part but of course not musicalwise. The singers were again very good and the orchestra as well.

So how does it feel to have Wagner’s Ring restructured and reduced to 9 hours instead of 15 hours? It was certainly a good compilation, you got a new view of the opera and of course not all of the 15 hours are exciting. But in the end some of the exciting parts have been missing. No ride of the valkuries for example. That was a bit disappointing.

So do you need this version of the Ring? No. Is it a good one? Yes!
