I have been in a Tango Operita yesterday. A chamber opera, actually more like a musical, dedicated to the tango by Astor Piazzolla. An amazing piece, a singleton that is not very often performed.
It is the story of Maria de Buenos Aires told by a ghost, her death and her reincarnation. Several pictures, often surreal, describe that story. Needless to say that the music is tango nuevo, composed by the master of tango.
It is a production of Staatsoperette Dresden and very different from other productions. Everything happened on stage, i.e. even the audience was placed on stage. It was an intimate relation to the singers and dancers. Even more intimate was the audience placed on two handful of tables at the edge of the action.
I was set at the table right in the middle. That gave me the impression of being part of the action myself. The impression was even more increased when the main singer and dancer looked into my eyes, approached me, and touched me. Light was on us. Then I was covered in her long hair.
I discovered Astor Piazzolla last year and was looking forward this operita very much. The production was amazing, the music excellent, surprisingly light, the dancing and acting was good. Might only be better when you watch it in Argentina. The feeling was in any way present yesterday!
I did not choose the seats myself but they could not have been any better! Thanks a lot to my benefactor! 😊 You were wonderful company!
