Yesterday I have been to the opera in Frankfurt. They showed „Hänsel and Gretel“. I had seen this production before but could not remember it fully and it is always nice to see something again, right?
The performance started early at 6pm and was full of children. I do like that. Opera should not be something only old people watch. And the story and music is obviously suitable for children – considering the brutality of the story someone might argue it is not, but still fairy tales aim at children.
The music is easy listening, the story is well known. Singers and orchestra were brilliant again. I did like the production. During the long overture the whole piece was shown in a puppet theatre and after that we could follow the piece on the large stage. An excellent idea which makes clear that we are watching theatre. I have seen it in another piece too, but cannot remember which 🙁
Definitely worth watching!
