On Saturday I have been to the chamber opera in Vienna playing „A quiet place“ by Leonard Bernstein. An interesting piece where you get to know a family story right after the funeral of the mother.
The opera starts with the funeral and then you learn that the family is obviously broken and some incest events have taken place. The story is not entirely clear about what exactly has happened. During the third act the remaining family learns to forgive.
The music has a lot of jazz elements. The acting was very good, especially of Daniel Foki who played the gay son. The critique of the production is very mixed but Daniel‘s contribution is praised everywhere. You can read one of the critiques here.
It is not necessary to go and see the opera.
