The next concert today was Semele of Händel at the Musikverein (the most famous concert hall in Vienna). That was the first time I really enjoyed a piece of Händel!
The orchestra was the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Probably the best baroque orchestra I have heard so far. Also the Choir of the Age of Enlightenment was excellent.
But Louise Alder as Semele was outstanding. I am quite happy to say that she is in the ensemble of Frankfurt opera. Her aria „myself I shall adore“ was very funny (btw. she is also very good looking which helps in this aria).
Her lover Jupiter was sung by James Way. A very young but woderful (and also good looking) tenor. While the piece was cocertante they were really acting on stage.
Ciara Hendrick as Ino and Rowan Pierce as Iris were also exceptional. Only Juno and Athamas could not match the rest of the singers.
At the end they received a well deserved standing ovation.
