Today I have been to the opera. „Elektra“ by Richard Strauss has been played at the Wiener Staatsoper.
I had a wonderful seat in the front row of one of the balconies right up the stalls. My neighbors was a former member of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, 89 years old. He was very passionate. Elektra would be his favorite opera and you could sense it.
It is also one of my favorite operas and now my most seen one. I love the Frankfurt production. I have also seen the one of Leipzig, of Milano and now the one of Vienna.
Klythemnästra was again sung by Waltraud Meier who is fantastic. Unfortunately Evelyn Herlitzius declined the role of Elektra, but we had nevertheless a very good Elektra. All in all the singers were excellent.
The production was ok but nothing special- no burned corpses like in Frankfurt. The orchestra was excellent. And my neighbor did confirm it. He was very happy 😊
